Nail It this Summer - S/S14 Trends

Life is too short to have naked nails

Summer is just around the corner, which means a good Mani and Pedi is a must. No matter how chic your summer outfit is, if you have chipped nails from last season, you might as well stay in doors.

Here are the hottest trends for S/S14 -

Minty Fresh -

Cool fresh mints are a must this season, adding a subtle pop of colour to your spring/summer wardrobe.

They suit most skin tones, and are different if you want to change it up and try something different.

There are lots of brands doing this kind of colour, from high street to designer.

Try Illamasqua's Nomad, CND's Mint Convertible (for shellac lovers) or Essie's Ruffles and Feathers.

Crispy White -

White is a nail trend that has continued to stay on the catwalk since last year. It's an easy way to update your look for summer.

Don't be afraid to try white.

It's very flattering against medium/dark skin tones.

If you get gel or shellac, white is a great colour as it stays glossy and clean for weeks.

Add a bit of nail art to change it up. Try black tips, a favourite on the catwalk this season.

Try CND Cream Puff, OPI Alpine Snow

Tropical Summer -

A classic summer favourite, tropical reds and pinks. Bold red nails have been all over the red carpet at Cannes this year.

This season we're moving away from the classic red towards Orangey Reds.

Fuchsia is always a good choice, and a shade you can never really go wrong with.

Try Chanel Holiday, Essie Haute in the Heat or CND Electric Orange.

Mermaid Blues -

Not a favourite of mine, but bang on trend for this summer season.

You don't always have to switch to bright colours to be on trend for summer.

Add a bit of contrast to your summer wardrobe with some deep blues and greens.

Try Illamasqua's Viridian or YSL's La Laque Couture 51.

Melon Shades -

All that talk of Beyonce drinking watermelon has brought back melon/coral colours yet again as a favourite this summer.

If you want to move away from tropical colours and go for something more subtle, these colours are perfect for you.

Brightens up your look and is very flattering on any age, from 16 to 60.

Try Chanel Mirabella, Tom Ford Coral Beach or Essie Resort Fling.

Wipe the Slate Clean-

Wipe the slate clean this summer with some gorgeous slate greys.

One of my favourite colours, a great look on the nails. If you want to try white but you're too scared, go for a grey. Also a different take on the nude pinks, try a nude-ish grey.

Grey is a lovely matte colour for the nails and looks very chic alongside a summer work wardrobe.

Try CND Cityscape, OPI Don't Bossa Nova Me Around, Essie Miss Fancy Pants or Dior Trianon.

Blush Beauty -

For anyone who wants something more subtle, try a classic pink.

Blush pinks with a warmer undertone.

Looks great on more mature ladies. Something brighter, moving away from the classic nude.

Try Chanel May or Rose Confidential. You could even try OPI's Don't Bossa Nova Me Around.

Shimmering Summer -

A summer season favourite for 2014.

If you're not really a shimmery nails person, this isn't for you, but for anyone who doesn't mind some glitter or shimmer this is your summer look.

Add some shimmer to any evening look with this polish, and match with some shimmery highlighter on the top of your cheek bones for a glowy goddess look.

You can always apply some shimmer over a different colour.

Try Illamasqua's Trilliant or Kure Bazaar Metallic Rose.
